Bored at home
How long have you been together? As of tomorrow we will have been married 10 months.
How long did you date? Um, not very long.
How old is he? 22 and a half!
Who eats more? Shane, for sure! He'll eat dinner, then a sandwich, then some cereal...
Who said I love you first? Me. We were sitting on the bench outside his parents' house when I said, "I think I love you..."
Who is taller? Shane. He's almost a whole foot taller.
Who can sing better? I'm not sure either of us are very good...don't tell him I said that, though!
Who is smarter? Shane has a lot of common sense but I'm book smart. So it depends on the situation.
Who does the laundry? I do. But if he needs his uniforms washed after I've already done the rest of our laundry he'll do it. He helps me fold clothes sometimes, too.
Who pays the bills? Shane earns most of the money, but I'm the one who gets the checks in the mail...
Who sleeps on the right side? I do.
Who mows the lawn? Uh, what lawn?
Who cooks dinner? Hahaha...me, when it comes out right!
Who drives? Shane.
Who is more stubborn? Me, hands down. I've been trying not to be, though. It's not worth it most of the time.
Who kissed who first? He kissed me. It was perfect and funny at the same time. I'll never forget it!
Who asked who out first? I don't know. I just kinda showed up at his house the day he got home from his mission, but he called me the next day and asked me if I wanted to hang out some more. So I guess Shane did.
Who proposed? Shane. It was more like "Hey, here's your ring" but that was my fault because I knew he had the ring and I just wanted to see it, and once I saw it I just wanted to try it on, and once I tried it on I didn't want to take it off!
Who has more friends? Most of our friends are "our" friends.
Who is more sensitive? Me.
Who has more siblings? Shane.
Who wears the pants? Shane, but I definitely have a say in every decision we make.

Small update

Congrats to her! Also, on Friday I was able to attend my first sealing (in which I was NOT the nervous bride)! Shane's cousin Nicole got married and I'm so thankful that we were invited to the ceremony. It was beautiful. Shane was able to go, too, even though he had to work later that day.
That's pretty much been it for the past few weeks! Shane was sick, now I'm sick, but other than that everything else is great!

Fire

This picture was taken at PIR. I felt kind of silly jut sitting there, but after a while a couple of other cars pulled up and people got out to take pictures. So we weren't alone!
We drove closer and stopped on a bridge, where a bunch of other cars were already parked, and took this video:
The last thing I saw on the news last night after we got home was that 25 homes were being evacuated just as a precaution because the wind was starting to pick up. There was smoke in the sky today but it's not as bad as last night. Hopefully they can put it out soon!

I'm a bad blogger
Shane got me P.S. I Love You and said that if I am ever mean to him in this life, he's going to torture me by writing me letters after he dies. How sweet is that. ;-) Seriously, I love that movie and am happy to own it!
The past couple of weeks have been good. Just working, going to school and getting the apartment clean and organized. We've been using my parents' pool on our days off. It's nice just to relax. Also, today was our first day teaching the CTR 7 class (we used to be in Nursery). Those kids have a TON of energy but they're so much fun and they say the funniest things. I love getting to go to Opening Exercises and Singing Time and all that because I didn't do that as a kid, so it's pretty cool.
Sorry I don't have any new pictures. I take my camera everywhere but I hardly ever use it, I'm so bad. I'll try to take some soon.

Work in progress
So I found some things today at work and decided to try them at home. It's a bad picture. I don't know how many times I've crawled up there trying to fix that greenery (it still doesn't look right) and I think I took the picture too close because you can only see half of the plate. You can see it perfectly from the front door and living room which is all that matters, right? :) The cabinets go all the way down the wall, and will have some more greenery and a white sign that says "HOME." So yeah, it's a work in progress for sure. Thursday, May 29, 2008
Home sweet home

It's small but cozy. Having lived here before, I'm aware of the limited cabinet space, which I pretty much filled with all our wedding gifts (we finally opened them!!). I invested in a 5-tier shelving unit for food. Originally, it was supposed to fit in our laundry room since we decided to live without a washer/dryer...BUT the ground was too unlevel. I guess it'll just stay where it is until my step-dad fixes our kitchen table. Then it will probably go back into the laundry room, where we'll either fix the shelves so they're straight or just stick a phone book or something under one of the legs:

My beautiful Monet that I can't wait to hang up:

We're getting a black end table to go between those couches, and possibly a new lamp:

And the most beautiful decoration of all...EMPTY BOXES! :)

The move went great. We had a lot of help from both sides of the family and at the end of the day on Wednesday we tried to show our appreciation by hosting a pizza party at Peter Piper Pizza! It was fun to get everyone together and hang out and EAT! Now it's my goal to get everything put away and organized by the end of the week. The clothes and shoes are pretty much the only things left, but I'm kind of stuck because I can't get the shoe rack I bought to stay together! I got it today while Shane was at work so maybe he can try when he gets home. I hope it works, though, because I can't stand just throwing my shoes in the bottom of the closet and having to dig for a pair every day.
I'll post more pictures as we hang up pictures and all that stuff. A giant thank you to everyone who helped!!

Fun Day
So today was a long and exciting day. We picked up my mom and took her to Chile's for lunch. It was fun to hang out with her. The oil in Shane's car was being changed while we ate. After that, we went back to the house for a while to play video games and relax because it was too hot to be outside. We went to our storage unit later in the evening and went through boxes and threw a lot of stuff away, and took a bunch of things to Goodwill. We both felt better knowing that when we moved back into our apartment we wouldn't be taking a ton of stuff we didn't need. After Goodwill, we got some Subway, then rented some movies and ate ice cream.
Speaking of the apartment, we plan to move back this Saturday. We have new couches and we have a black coffee table picked out (from Poppy's, of course) and Dave said he would paint our bookcase black to match. Poppy's decided to give me that broken table, which my step-dad can also fix. It's the perfect size for our kitchen. Now all we need is an end table and some decorations! Pretty exciting stuff.

More exciting news: I got braces on Wednesday. The funny thing is, Paige got hers at the same time. We were actually sitting next to each other. They start putting mine on first, and Paige kept watching me with a horrified look on her face. It was making me really nervous! Putting the brackets wasn't painful, just time-consuming because Dr. Walton had several other patients (Paige included) to look after at the same time. When it was all done, my teeth felt like mush. Actually, I still can't close my mouth! After two days of staying doped up on Advil and milk shakes, I feel pretty good. All the kids in my nursery class wouldn't stop staring at my mouth, though.
So, other than Shane's graduation we haven't been up to much. School and work are still the same. I've been stock-piling a bunch of things from my work that I want to buy to use to decorate our apartment. I even talked to my boss about buying that table that split in half (see previous post). Seriously, I'll give them $50 and have my step-dad fix it for us. It would be perfect for our little dining space! Oh! I have more evidence that there's a ghost at work. There's this black sofa table, right? I was dusting it a couple weeks ago and it looked fine. A few days ago, someone went to buy it and noticed that it had some scratches on the top of it. My co-workers and I check it out, and guess what? The scratches spelled a message! It said I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO LEAVE. How creepy is that?!

Shane's graduation is Friday and I am so excited! It was also a good excuse to go on a min-shopping spree this afternoon and get my nails done. I haven't done anything like that since my wedding 7 months ago. As for where we'll be once he gets home, there's a good chance we'll go back to Camelot Apartments (it sounds pretty but it's not, trust me). I was a little disappointed when we first made this decision (I hated Camelot the first time we lived there) but I've decided to have a better attitude. Since I work at a home decor place, I've been making a pile of decorations and stuff that I want to buy for the apartment. Then, next year I will be graduated from school and we can think about building a house!
I just want to say that I am so grateful for my husband and for the sacrifice that he's made in order to support our family. I know it stinks to be at COTA all week while everyone's in Buckeye, but I'm proud that he makes the best of it and does a good job. It will all pay off in the end! I love you, Shane!

Then I went to work. It was pretty slow, as usual. You'd think slow days would be relaxing but they're not. It's almost a little bit stressful because I feel like you need to stay busy but there aren't a lot of things that need to be done. And when there's nothing to do, time passes slowly and my six-hour shift suddenly feels like twelve. By the time 4:00 rolled around, I was more than ready to go to school.
School was all right. We have our last medical terminology test tomorrow so we watched a movie and studied independently. I'm excited to move on to the next part of my program.
I heard from Shane tonight. He got maced in the face today and was pretty messed up for a few hours but I'm sure he'll want to tell the story himself when he gets home this weekend. Wow, he's only been gone a day and I miss him already. Oh well, he has 9 more work days left and then he's home for good!
I'm getting braces on the 23rd, the same day as Shane's little sister Paige. Some days I'm excited for it and some days I'm not. Once I get them put on, I'm sure this blog will become all about my experience as a metal mouth. Maybe I'll post some "before" pictures of my teeth this weekend.

Shot gun

It was super nice to have him here this week. We got things done but we also relaxed and hung out every night, which I've missed a lot since he started the academy. Friday night we packed our blanket and drove to the temple to watch the Easter pageant. It was cool because we went to the Easter pageant a year ago for our first date (and sat way in the back where we couldn't see anything!!). After the pageant, we picked Steve up from Auto Body World. He looks brand new! We spent Saturday running errands, and ate some seafood alfredo at Olive Garden. We also bought a new couch and loveseat! It was a great deal. We're looking forward to using them when we get our own place again. They're shrink-wrapped and sitting in storage right now or else I'd take pictures.
That was just a small update. I'm pretty tired so I'm kind of at a loss for thoughts and ideas. Hopefully I'll be better about writing in the future!

Weird Day

On a happier note, I talked to Shane tonight. He's doing good, is getting good grades, and is ready to come home tomorrow...and this time he doesn't have to go back until the 23rd!! Plus, this Saturday is our six month anniversary. All I'll say is that it's been an amazing learning experience, and whole lot of fun! I'm sure it will only get better.
So, those were the highlights of my day. Now I'm just sitting in bed, wrapped in my totally awesome goose down comforter (seriously, this is the best bedset ever...it's so hard for me to get out of bed in the morning). This is probably the best part of the day, when all my work is done and I can just hang out for a little while before bed. The only things that would make it better is if Shane were here and House were on TV!

Poor Steve

Meet Steve, our 2008 Corolla. We shared five magical weeks with him before rear-ending a fellow Toyota on the 101 North and Union Hills. That's a new PR for me! I went six months before getting in an accident in my Ford (and it wasn't my fault, I swear).

Shane's in Tucson so it was up to me to drive Steve to Auto Body World. I don't drive stick very well (I won't even move Steve out of the driveway if I don't have to) but I made it the whole way without stalling. The car was making funny noises, though, and I kept picturing that scene from Tommy Boy where the hood of the car flies up and they swerve all over the road. Anyway, I made it okay and everyone should be proud. :)
Besides the fact that our brand new car's broken, I had a fantastic day. Bree and Mani and I ate lunch at Chilis, after which we hit up the Big Apple Bagels Cafe. We drank smoothies, went shoe shopping and looked for new Sunday dresses. I had fun.
Then, after dinner, Shane called to tell me about his day. This week his class is practicing self -defense so he was pretty beat. He's happy that he's losing weight, though. He's lost about 10 lbs so far and he still has five more weeks of the academy to go.
Overall, life is good. We've been so blessed. Shane has a steady job and I am working on one - 11 more months till I graduate school! We have new cars, a roof over our heads, money for our bills, and we have each other. Sometimes customers at work or people I don't know very well see my wedding ring and give me a bad time about being young and married, but I love it. It's fun to make decisions and see the results and learn from our mistakes. And when we see everything start to come together, it makes it all worth it.
